Our support for public health dates back more than a century. Our company was founded in 1913 with liquid bleach as our flagship product, used by industrial customers for stain removal, cleaning and disinfecting. Since then, Clorox bleach and an expanding portfolio of products have continued to contribute to healthier lives in healthier environments — from hospitals to schools, from event venues to homes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a> estimates that drug-resistant bacteria cause 2 million illnesses and approximately 23,000 deaths each year in the U.S. alone. The CDC also reported that approximately one in 25 U.S. hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection on any given day. The CDC estimates that improved infection control practices and antibiotic stewardship efforts could prevent about 619,000 infections and 37,000 deaths over five years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We see ourselves as part of the solution. <\/span><\/span>Our fast-acting, EPA-registered disinfectants and electrostatic technology work together to help reduce the spread of pathogens that cause HAIs, including <\/span><\/span>C. difficile<\/em><\/span><\/span> and MRSA. <\/span><\/span>And through our professional product business’ decade<\/span><\/span>long partnership with <\/span><\/span>The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span>we’ve<\/span> advanced the science and practice of infection control while making it more <\/span>equitable<\/span> through free educational resources for healthcare institutions. Our sponsorship of APIC’s new Health Equity Fund also <\/span>helps<\/span><\/span> underwrite the cost of infection prevention resources for underserved U.S. communities by offering<\/span> vital access to training and consulting tools to critical access hospitals in rural areas.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, people also routinely get sick with more common infections. Up to <\/span><\/span>5 <\/span><\/span><\/span>million people globally get the flu every year, and the viruses that cause <\/span>cold<\/span> and flu can be present anywhere — including your own home. Our efforts to ensure access to clean, better-tasting water for the public have also been<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>bolstered by our Brita <\/span>brand<\/span><\/span>’s<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>water filtration products. Through the simple and safe filtration method known as carbon filtering, impurities are removed from the water source and trapped by the filter’s carbon barrier. This process used in all Brita pitchers, bottles and dispensers makes clean water easily accessible to Brita users. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Realizing that access to clean water disproportionally affects low-income communities and people of color, our <\/span><\/span>Brita brand <\/span>established<\/span> a partnership program with municipalities replacing lead service lines. In fiscal year <\/span><\/span>2025<\/span><\/span>, this partnership expanded to over 300<\/span><\/span> communities to <\/span>provide<\/span> cost-effective, short-term filtration solutions while longer-term infrastructure improvements are being made<\/span><\/span>. With the emergence of fast-spreading viruses and pandemics over recent years, <\/span><\/span>we<\/span><\/span>’<\/span><\/span><\/span>ve<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>supported public health<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span>through our disinfecting products in healthcare, <\/span>business<\/span> and home settings. Our bleach donations and public education efforts have helped battle Ebola in West Africa and the <\/span>chikingunya<\/span>, dengue and Zika outbreaks in the Americas. <\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

Our global donations of disinfecting products were also instrumental to COVID-19 relief efforts, at a time when hygiene was more important than ever before. <\/span><\/span>W<\/span><\/span><\/span>e partnered with health and wellness experts from the Centers for Disease Control<\/span> Foundation and Cleveland Clinic to <\/span>provide<\/span> guidance to <\/span>a number of<\/span> America’s leading companies on increased safety measures for shared spaces. Our $1 million grant<\/span><\/span> in 2021<\/span><\/span><\/span> to Cleveland Clinic supported science-backed research informing future public health best practices and strategies, while a<\/span><\/span> $1 million grant to the CDC Foundation Emergency Response Fund helped extend the organization’s COVID-19 response.<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

Public health needs can become particularly acute during humanitarian crises following natural disasters. Bleach is one of the first lines of defense after an earthquake, severe <\/span>storm<\/span> or flood.
